Looksrare standard unwraps make LOOKS claimable after seven days

Last updated

Looksrare staking lets holders reclaim committed LOOKS through a seven-day standard unwrap or an immediate priority unwrap with a 5% LOOKS burn. These terms belong to the rewards system introduced in November 2023. The standard period starts when an unwrap begins, and holders must collect their tokens after the period ends.

Wrapped and receipt tokens account for the committed position, while returned LOOKS becomes available in the wallet. The reward option controls what the position earns; the unwrap method controls how its principal becomes accessible.

Withdrawal Method and Returned LOOKS

The selected unwrap method changes when committed LOOKS becomes available and whether the withdrawal burns part of that amount. Standard unwrapping applies a waiting period. Priority unwrapping removes that protocol wait in exchange for a token deduction. Both methods return LOOKS, even when the position previously earned rewards in another token.

The withdrawal choice concerns the amount being reclaimed. A separate reward balance, an NFT listing price and a marketplace trading fee describe different amounts. Keeping those amounts separate prevents a staking withdrawal deduction from being mistaken for a charge on an NFT sale.

LOOKS, wLOOKS and cLOOKS

LOOKS is the Ethereum ERC-20 token committed to the rewards system, while wLOOKS and cLOOKS represent related wrapped or deposited positions. Committing LOOKS converts it into wLOOKS, or Wrapped LOOKS. The WETH Earner uses this wrapped form in its reward contract.

The LOOKS Compounder uses cLOOKS, or Compounding LOOKS, as a receipt for deposited tokens. That receipt supports redemption of the Compounder position. A receipt balance and a wallet's spendable LOOKS balance therefore describe different holdings, even though both concern the same underlying token.

WETH Earner and LOOKS Compounder

The WETH Earner pays rewards in WETH, while the LOOKS Compounder converts earned WETH into additional committed LOOKS. The choice changes the form of the reward without changing the identity of the token originally committed.

WETH Rewards

The WETH Earner separates committed LOOKS from claimable WETH. WETH means Wrapped Ether. A WETH reward amount represents earnings in that token; it does not describe how much LOOKS the holder can unwrap. The interface shows committed tokens and claimable rewards separately.

Automatic LOOKS Compounding

The Compounder automatically trades earned WETH into LOOKS and adds those tokens to the committed balance. Holders do not manually collect each LOOKS reward before adding it back to this position.

Compounding can increase the number of committed LOOKS when rewards accrue. It does not establish an increase in the position's cash value, which also depends on the token's price.

When Does the Seven-Day Unwrap Clock Start?

The standard unwrap clock starts when the holder initiates the unwrap, regardless of how long the LOOKS was previously committed. A long staking history does not satisfy a newly requested withdrawal's waiting period.

The wrapper contract records an amount and timestamp for each request. Its completion function rejects an attempt made before the cooldown ends. Opening a withdrawal dialog or approving a transaction in a wallet does not itself establish a completed on-chain request.

Unlocking and Collecting the Tokens

A standard unwrap makes LOOKS eligible for collection after the waiting period, but the holder must return to collect it. Unlocking describes eligibility; collection delivers the tokens. The wrapper exposes distinct request and completion functions for these operations.

Standard Unwrap States

Waiting for Unlock

A pending request identifies an amount awaiting the end of its cooldown. The request does not establish delivery to the wallet.

Ready for Collection

An eligible request still needs its completion transaction. Once the transaction succeeds, the holder receives LOOKS in their wallet.

Pending Amounts and Cancellation

The standard unwrap mechanism allows one pending request per account at a time and permits cancellation, but it does not let holders edit an existing request. An additional standard request therefore cannot simply join the first one.

Changing the selected amount requires cancellation of the existing request and creation of a replacement. The replacement starts its own waiting period. Completing the existing unwrap after its waiting period is the other way to free the request slot. Cancellation itself is not a completed withdrawal.

Priority Unwraps and the LOOKS Burn

Priority unwrapping returns LOOKS without the standard cooldown and deducts tokens from the amount being unwrapped. The rewards system introduced in November 2023 burns 5% of the LOOKS amount processed through a priority unwrap. The remaining portion goes to the holder.

The burn applies to that withdrawal amount, not automatically to every LOOKS token the wallet owns. Immediate unwrapping describes the absence of a protocol waiting period. The Ethereum transaction must still execute successfully before the holder receives the tokens.

Reward Claims Without Principal Withdrawal

Claimable WETH from the WETH Earner can be collected without unwrapping the committed LOOKS. The rewards interface supports WETH claims separately and also claims accrued WETH automatically when committed LOOKS is withdrawn.

Unwrapping changes access to the committed LOOKS; claiming WETH collects the separate reward balance. In the Compounder, earned WETH instead becomes additional committed LOOKS through conversion.

Ethereum Transaction Costs

Ethereum transaction fees require ETH and remain separate from the priority unwrap's LOOKS deduction. Gas costs depend on the computation used and the price paid for that computation. They have no fixed LOOKS percentage. A wallet holding only LOOKS or WETH may therefore lack the ETH needed to submit its claim transaction.

An executed transaction can consume gas even when it fails. Repeated completion attempts before the standard cooldown ends do not bypass the contract's timing rule and may incur network fees.

Withdrawal Choice for an Existing Stake

Withdrawal timing determines whether the standard waiting period fits the intended use of the tokens. A pending request also constrains changes to the amount.

A request unlocking at the intended transfer deadline may leave too little time to complete collection. The tokens become usable after the claim transaction succeeds.

Looksrare: what people ask

Can a Priority Unwrap Run While a Standard Unwrap Is Pending?

A priority unwrap can be initiated even when a standard unwrap already exists. The restriction to one pending request applies to standard unwraps; it does not prohibit the priority method. The LOOKS amount selected for priority unwrapping remains subject to its 5% burn.

Why Does the Rewards Interface Hide My cLOOKS Balance?

The interface hides cLOOKS because the Compounder's receipt accounting works automatically. The receipt represents deposited LOOKS and supports redemption, but it is not an ordinary token balance intended for transfers between wallets. cLOOKS transfers are disabled; the Compounder burns the corresponding receipt shares during redemption.

What Happens to LOOKS Left in the Retired Staking Contracts?

LOOKS left in the retired contracts was not forfeited by the November 2023 migration. Those positions stopped earning LOOKS rewards after Ethereum block 18663262. The seven-day standard unwrap and priority burn belong to the replacement rewards system, so they should not be applied indiscriminately to a legacy balance.

Does Increasing Ethereum's Priority Fee Shorten a Standard Unwrap?

A higher Ethereum priority fee cannot shorten the standard unwrap's seven-day cooldown. That network fee affects transaction inclusion, while the wrapper contract enforces withdrawal eligibility. Paying a validator tip and choosing a priority unwrap are different actions with different costs.

Is Holding wLOOKS Enough to Establish a WETH Earner Position?

A wLOOKS wallet balance and a committed WETH Earner balance are distinct states. The wrapper exposes a basic wrapping operation and a separate operation combining wrapping with staking. The committed balance identifies the earning position; the presence of wLOOKS in a wallet alone does not establish that position.
